October 29th: Emotive Fruition: “Everyday We Get More Illegal" Reading

Monday, October 29 at 7pm | Tickets are $15
Caveat, 21 A Clinton Street, New York, NY 10002

DIRECTIONS: F/J/M/Z to Delancey Street/Essex Street

My poem "10 Truths and a Lie" from Nepantla: An Anthology Dedicated to Queer Poets of Color, was selected to be read at this event!

Emotive Fruition hires New York stage and film actors to perform the poems on stage, following a rehearsal with all participating poets. We are interested in how a poem on the page can come to life on stage, with the voice of the poet animated by the voice of the actor.

Emotive Fruition will team up with CantoMundo to present a live poetry event. During the past ten years both CantoMundo, a national organization for Latinx poets, and the term, "Latinx," have emerged and have shaped our understandings of what it means to be and to write as a Latinx. The show's theme "Everyday We Get More Illegal," is inspired by the title of Juan Felipe Herrera’s poem and will explore notions and experiences that have shaped Latinx communities.

Nepantla: An Anthology Dedicated to Queer Poets of Color edited by Christopher Soto (May 2018)  is a historic survey of queer poets of color from the United States. It covers 100 years of literary history (from the Harlem Renaissance to the present).

Note: This is the first time my poetry has ever been published.
